Douglas County took the lead for voting turnout with 51 percent of active voters casting a ballot as of Tuesday night. Nye County voters took second place in the state with 50.1 percent.
With less than a week until Election Day, 21,205 residents have participated so far, the third largest number in the state after Clark and Washoe counties.
According to the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office, 15,012 mailed ballots have been accepted in Douglas, so far, with 6,193 voters casting a ballot in person.
“The sooner we receive mailed ballots, the sooner we get the results to the public on Election Night,” Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans said Wednesday morning. “Right now, we are completely caught up on mail ballots, processing them as we receive them. I’m so proud of my team.”
After wrapping up early in-person voting 6 p.m. Friday, the Douglas County Clerk-Treasurer’s Office will begin preparations for Tuesday’s Election Day next week.
Polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center, Kahle Community Center, the TRE Community Center, the Dresslerville Community Center and the Indian Hills General Improvement District office.
Any voter may cast a ballot in person at any polling place. Dropping off ballots may be done at any polling place up until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Ballots voters received in the mail may be dropped off 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday or 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Douglas County Courthouse.
As of Monday, there were around 160 ballots that required a cure.
Most involve issues with matching the voters signature, but there are also a few who forgot to sign their ballots at all.
