Genoa, Nev. — While the smell of smoke lingers in the Valley this morning, it appears most of the pall that arrived on Wednesday evening has cleared. A controlled burn east of Arnold, Calif., generated the smoke.
The smoke took a circuitous route to Carson Valley heading north into Kirkwood before filling up the Tahoe Basin and then catching the west wind over the Carson Range. It was as thick as I’ve seen it since the megafires of 2021.
Two people were transported for treatment after a vehicle ran into the gas pumps at the Carson Valley Market in Minden around 4 p.m. Wednesday. Fortunately nothing ignited the fuel coming from the vehicle.
Monitor, Sonora and Tioga passes are all closed for the next round of storms arriving with November. According to CalTrans, all three Sierra routes will be closed through the weekend.
A special Halloween donation performance of “Misery” will be performed 7:30 p.m. at the CVIC Hall in Minden. This is the final weekend of the play, with shows Friday and Saturday night and a Sunday matinee. Visit www.carsonvalleycommunitytheatre.org for more information.
There are a couple of parking lots worth of trunk or treat events occurring today in celebration of the Silver State’s 160th birthday. Oh, and it’s also Halloween. For more information, pick up a copy of Wednesday’s R-C. It’s only a buck.
There might be some nice trick or treating weather today, though it will be a bit breezy this afternoon. The rain is supposed to clear before lunchtime.
After a cloudy morning, the sun’s supposed to appear with the high predicted to hit 53 degrees. The 5-15 mph wind is forecast to shift west later this morning to usher those clouds out, gusting to 25 mph.
