Three local street projects funded in part by federal dollars are in the works across Douglas County.

On Tuesday, Gardnerville Town Board members approved a $130,000 contract with Lumos and Associates for design services for the reconstruction of Industrial Way. A $1.26 million Community Project Funding Federal Grant will help pay for the half-mile loop south of town.

Residents along 10th Street were notified that the five-week project to install a sidewalk on the west side of the street will begin Monday.

Qualcon Construction was awarded a $346,964 bid for the project last month by the Minden Town Board.

The town received $350,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds to finish the project.

Work on Kahle Drive’s Complete Streets Project at Stateline could go to bid this fall to begin next spring.

Douglas County commissioners are being asked today to transfer a $1.385 million federal Housing and Urban Development grant to the Nevada Tahoe Conservation District for the project.

The county was awarded the funds specifically for the project, which has been in the works for years.

Final design and permitting is nearly done, according to the conservation district with only utility designs requiring finalization.

Improvements include paving, drainage, sidewalks, bike lanes crosswalks and undergrounding utilities.

“The current condition of the road is highly degraded, unsafe and a detriment to water quality and the adjacent public lands,” according to the district.

The entire project will cost around $4.15 million with $3.955 million in the bank. Bike and pedestrian improvements worth $200,000 will be bid as an alternate so road construction can move forward when grading season opens in May.
