Genoa, Nev. — A 3.7 magnitude earthquake with an epicenter west of Holbrook Junction was reported at 5:07 a.m. today.  I’ve already received a report that the earthquake was felt by resident John Flaherty, who lives very near there. The US Geological Survey lists 18 responses at earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/ including one from Pollock Pines.

Air quality is barely in the good range this morning, according to fire.airnow.gov and is approaching moderate from wildfires’ drift smoke. The Bear Fire near Loyalton is at 3,323 acres and 15 percent containment, according to this morning’s Incident Management Situation Report.

County commissioners approved funding the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and the South Shore Chamber on Thursday, though they expressed concerns that California wasn’t providing more money.

Commissioners approved $400,000 and pass-through $1.385 million in HUD grants 5-0 to participate in the Kahle Complete Streets program.

Minden Town Board approved the design review on Wednesday for the new judicial center off Buckeye Road. I think they were the last word on the project, so it should be good to go. First work is widening Buckeye for the turn.

The Westwood Park splash pad is shaping up nicely. There’s still some work required, according to Town Manager JD Frisby, but they’re getting pretty close.

The Douglas County Rodeo opens 5 p.m. today and continues starting 1 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. You can get tickets at the Fairgrounds or by going to douglascountynvrodeo.com/tickets

The Douglas County High School class reunion for classes 1961-1966 is 5 p.m. Saturday at the JT Basque Bar & Dining Room in Gardnerville. Any Douglas graduate is welcome to stop by to visit.

The forecast high temperature keeps getting hotter, with a high of 94 degrees predicted for today. There’s a chance of thundershowers after 2 p.m. today, which will help clear out the smoke and haze. The Washoe Zephyr picks up at 5-10 mph this afternoon and may clear it all out.
