Douglas volleyball beats Galena in four

Plus, results from Douglas High cross country, golf, tennis and soccer

The Douglas High volleyball team grabbed a four-set win over the Galena Grizzlies on Thursday – 25-8, 16-25, 25-20, 26-24.

Parker Estes led the way with 13 kills for the Tigers while Morgan Machado and Peyton Simpson had 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

Sumer Williams led Douglas with 17 digs while Priya Kc had a team-best 17 assists.

Douglas served 17 aces with Ella Girdner having a team-high five aces.

UP NEXT: Douglas (5-6, 2-3 in Class 5A North) went on the road Tuesday to Spanish Springs (6-7, 2-3).


TIGER GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY WINS MEET, BOYS SECOND

Douglas High girls cross country put together the lowest team score of the meet this past weekend at North Tahoe’s Madman Mills Mountain Motivational.

The Tiger girls scored 24 points, led by Lucy Nord who was second overall with a time of 25:16.

Amy Van Wagenen was fourth, finishing in 25:55.

Logan Axtell (27:34) was 10th, Krystle Dixon (27:50) took 11th and Taylor Chase (28:06) finished 12th.

Stella Bradley rounded out the girls in 15th place.

On the boys side, Douglas took second place, finishing with 70 points, behind South Tahoe (47).

Sage Spencer was the first Tiger to cross the finish line, taking 15th in 24:17.

Colin Hatcher and Noah Johnson were 18th and 19th, respectively for Douglas.

Sophomore Nathaniel Blair was 34th in 26:31 while Anton Casper (27:17) took 41st and Kyndall McGuire (28:05) finished in 44th.

Wyatt Ervin capped the Tiger results with a 56th place finish in 30:51.


DOUGLAS GIRLS GOLF WINS MEET AT RED HAWK

The Tiger girls golf team had three of the lowest scores on the day at Red Hawk Golf Course last week, winning the meet with a team score of 385.

Spanish Springs was second with a score of 425.

Giana Zinke won medalist honors with an 81 while Madison Frisby was second with an 89.

Adri Nuno finished tied for fourth overall with a 105.

Morgan Gooch and Kailynn Dollar were right behind Nuno with scores of 110 and 111, respectively.


TIGER TENNIS LOSES TO BISHOP MANOGUE

Douglas High girls tennis fell to Bishop Manogue on Thursday, 14-4.

The Tigers picked up two points in singles from Kiley Girdner and Daisy Lehmann while earning two points in doubles as well.

Ava Gildea and Annie Hill took one point in doubles while Jasmine Shoemaker and Charlotte Bonar won the other.

Douglas boys tennis also lost to the Miners, 14-4.

Zack Peterlin won the Tigers’ lone point in singles while Lucius Tomassi and Ethan Willis took a set in doubles.

David Alexander and Abram Millward grabbed two points in doubles for Douglas.

UP NEXT: The girls (1-2) are on the road this week at Galena (1-2) Thursday and at Reed (0-3) Saturday.

The Tiger boys (1-3) will host Galena (1-1) Thursday.


DOUGLAS SOCCER DROPS A PAIR LAST WEEK

Both Douglas High soccer teams lost both of their contests last week.

On the boys side, the Tigers lost to Spanish Springs (3-0) and Hug (8-0).

On the girls side, Douglas fell against Reed (4-0) and Spanish Springs (5-0).

UP NEXT: The Douglas boys (0-4) travel to Bishop Manogue (5-3-1) Wednesday while the Tiger girls (2-3) were back in action Tuesday at home against Hug (0-6).
