Flags are at half-staff for Patriot Day, which is observing the 23 years since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Forecasters have issued a notice that today’s red flag warning will carry extreme fire conditions in what the National Weather Service deems a particularly dangerous situation. It has been five years since the last one of these, but there wasn’t a fire burning two valleys over in September 2019.
NV Energy has issued a public safety outage watch 11 a.m. today to 9 a.m. Thursday for either side of the Carson Range north of Genoa, including Glenbrook, Jacks Valley and western Carson City. The company said it could affect around 322 customers.
Planning commissioners denied 6-1 a request for a design review on a 5G tower behind East Fork Station 14 after hearing around an hour of public comment because it wasn’t a good fit for Minden’s entrance. Refurbishing a second tower along Stephanie Way was approved 6-1.
Both those decisions are appealable to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and possibly even district court, at some point. Only time will tell what happens.

Firefighters reported 31 percent containment on the Davis Fire, which grew 646 acres. When I drove home from Minden on Tuesday you could barely detect the smoke from the Davis Fire. The fire cameras bore that out with the smoke rising from the fire quite similar to that morning.
There was already a light breeze blowing this morning, which is forecast to pick up to 20-25 mph before lunch, gusting to 35-40 mph before it really gets going to 40-45 mph around 2 p.m. The temperature is predicted to top out at 78 degrees this afternoon.
