Genoa, Nev. — Traffic was backed up on Highway 395 through Gardnerville on Wednesday morning after the top of a too-tall semi collided with the awning at Pacific Gas. The southernmost pump lane was cordoned off this morning.

Members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse observed Sept. 11 near the Minden sign at highways 395 and 88, despite the blustery conditions. I’d intended to stop and get a photo on my way out of town from checking on Pacific Gas, but I missed them.

The Davis Fire was way down on the Calaveras alert wildfire camera overnight and containment is up to 38 percent. Firefighters have done yeoman’s work getting a handle on something that could have very easily been much, much worse. It’s not over yet, but there’s progress.

Douglas County deputies put out a small fire on the east side of Highway 88 near Waterloo Lane on Wednesday afternoon. East Fork Brush 14 responded and made sure it was good and out.

Topaz Lodge is hosting its Cruz’n Sierra Show & Shine starting tonight through Saturday. For more information go to TopazLodge.com and click events.

Southern Douglas County also had the top windspeed in the Reno, Carson Minden corridor from Wednesday’s red flag warning, with 61 mph at 4:50 p.m. at Wild Oat Mountain, according to the National Weather Service.

Whittell High School’s Homecoming game sees the Lady Warriors soccer team facing off against Pershing County tonight. They’ve been celebrating all week with dress-up days. Monday was dress like you’re on a Zoom call, which is pretty much every day for me.

Bring a sweater if you’re going to root for the Warriors, because it might be a little cool tonight. The temperature in Zephyr Cove is forecast to be in the mid-60s during the game.

Vacation Home Rental Manager Ernie Strehlow said it was 37.9 degrees at his place this morning. It was 36 degrees at Minden-Tahoe Airport and 45 degrees in Genoa this morning.

There are showers in the forecast for Sunday through Wednesday, we’ll see what happens when we get closer. I got a report that it rained lightly in spots on Wednesday.

For today, the forecast calls for sunny skies and a high temperature around 76 degrees. The wind will shift north at 5 mph this afternoon, which might bring some smoke into the region.
