Site work on the new Douglas County justice center is underway along Buckeye Road north of Minden.

Earlier this month, Minden Town Board members approved the final design review for the two-story, 50,000-square-foot building.

Workers will be installing a turn lane on Buckeye for the future structure located on property the county purchased from Park Ranch Holdings.

Financing the project will include a $37 million bond supported by sales tax revenue and another $14 million from the county’s nickel property tax devoted to infrastructure.

The site work is part of the $6.7 million first phase of the project. After site work is complete, work could begin on the utilities building.

Construction on the center is expected to begin in Spring 2025, with an estimated completion date of summer 2026.

On Tuesday afternoon, the center will be a topic of discussion at the 32nd annual Critical Issues Conference.

Panelists will include Sheriff Dan Coverley, County Manager Jenifer Davidson, County Commission Vice Chairwoman Sharla Hales, District Attorney Mark Jackson and District Judge Tod Young.

The conference is 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tahoe Blue Center in Stateline.

Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Director James Settelmeyer will co-host the event.

The event is conducted by the Business Council of Douglas County, and sponsored by several entities, including The Record-Courier.

Davidson will also be a panelist in the Sleepless in the C-Suite presentation, along with Barton Health CEO and President Dr. Clint Purvance, Nevada Builders Alliance CEO Glen Martel, Edgewood Tahoe Resort COO Corina Osborne. The panel will be moderated by Retail Association of Nevada President and CEO Mary Lau.

Douglas County manufacturers will also participate in a panel on fostering innovation and partnership.

Continuum Packing Solutions General Manager Lisa Costigan, Starbucks Roasting Plant Director Aaron Hatch, Nevada Manufacturers Association Interim President Jay Parmer and VIP Rubber and Plastic Plant Manager George Phillips Jr. will participate with Nevada Trucking Alliance CEO Paul Enos serving as moderator.
