A light dusting of snow appeared on the appropriately named Snow Valley Peak Alert Wildfire camera on Tuesday morning.
The camera is located at 9,212 feet in the Carson Range above Carson City, according to the Nevada Seismology Lab which operates the camera sponsored by NV Energy.
Foggy conditions reduced visibility on the camera around 8 a.m., but rocks with a little snow on them could be seen.
No snow appears to have fallen on the major passes through the mountains, including Daggett Pass on Kingsbury Grade and Spooner Summit.
That might not hold for Wednesday, though.
Today’s storm is expected to move off to the east leaving a chance of snow above 8,000 feet.
This afternoon will see a break in the weather before another low pressure system arrives tonight and is expected to be right over Western Nevada on Wednesday morning.
There’s a 40-70 percent chance places along the Sierra Front could see up to a half-inch of rain over 24 hours.
Snow levels are expected to remain above 8,000-9,000 feet
Sierra passes including Ebbetts, Sonora and Tioga have a 10-40 percent chance of receiving 4 inches of snow per the latest guidance by Thursday morning,” forecasters said. “Snow chances in the Tahoe Basin are very dismal with only the highest peaks getting an inch or two at most.”
