Genoa, Nev. — Laurie Hickey’s tour of the Genoa Cemetery is 10 a.m. Saturday. Laurie indicated she’s “dug up” a surprise. Finding out what that is will cost $5. She needs to get a count for who’s coming, so email lauraranch@charter.net to RSVP.


Douglas High Athletics and the Block D Letterman’s Club are hosting the 20th annual Memorial Scholarship Dinner at TJ’s Corral 2:30-7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available from the Tiger Cage, a Block D member or a student in a fall sport.


Sertoma Oktoberfest is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in Gardnerville’s Heritage Park. As always these weekends there’s a lot going on in Carson Valley. Pick up a copy of The R-C and check the calendar for more information.


Commissioners voted Thursday to eventually spend the $2.5 million left in RDA No. 1 to extend Vista Grande north from Jacks Valley Road and directed staff to work with developers to make up the other $1 million for the road. There are a lot of hoops associated with this, we’ll see how that translates.


The Minden gauge recorded .15 inches of precipitation from the recent storm, the most recorded since May 14. With the exception of a paltry .02 inches in August, that’s the first real rain Minden has seen in five months.


There are only 10 days left in the water year, with the forecast calling for sunny skies through Thursday. Today will be no exception with a high near 77 degrees and a light breeze out of the north.
