The nonprofit Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch has been awarded a $12,044 foundation grant to support education programming, artifact care, and other professional services at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.
This is the 13th consecutive year that the Frances C. and William P. Smallwood Smallwood Foundation has awarded a grant to the nonprofit Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch to support the organization's work.
"The Smallwood Foundation trustees have supported Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch since its beginning," said Suzy Stockdale, a Smallwood Foundation trustee and Minden resident. "Each of the grants has helped Friends of Dangberg accomplish so much at the park."
In addition to support for care of the park's historic artifact collection, a portion of the grant has been added to the Home Ranch Education Fund. Friends of Dangberg seeks additional grant funding to support and expand education programming, and donations in support of that effort from community members and service organizations are requested.
The Smallwood grant and other donations have allowed Friends of Dangberg to hire an education specialist to develop youth programming, emphasizing American history, arts, and agriculture-related activities. In 2024, a half-dozen youth events included activities focused on airplanes, gardening, ranching, reading, and solar and star gazing events. Astronomical Society of Nevada and Dare to be a Cowboy were involved in several of the events.
Friends of Dangberg staff are currently developing in-school history presentations, as well as field trips, for third- and fourth-grade students. Local teachers interested in learning more should write to Education Specialist Sierra Meszaros at education@dangberg.org. Home school students are also welcome.
"We're pleased to have the Smallwood Foundation's generous support," said Friends of Dangberg Director Mark Jensen.
