Autumn brings Leaf Season to Alpine County, where the friends of Hope Valley will be conducting an event 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 12-13 at Picketts Junction at the junction of highways 88 and 89.
As part of the Shades of Fall celebration, visitors will hear about aspen ecology and conservation, participate in free nature and history walks and obtain tips on the best spots to see the most colorful aspens in Alpine County.
Fall events in the county open with Art in the Park 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Alpine County Library in Markleeville.
Besides the work of a dozen local artists, there will be live music, coffee roasters, Indian tacos and an art booth for kids.
The following weekend the library will be the site of a Chili Cook-off 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 5. Both chili and salsa are on the menu.
