The Douglas High School softball team bested nearly everyone in its way this weekend at the Reed softball tournament.
The Tigers opened with a 6-2 win over Chico (Calif.), before besting Reno (18-0) and Dayton (18-1).
Reed was able to beat Douglas, 8-3, on Saturday, but the Tigers turned around with a 3-1 win over Spanish Springs to cap the five-game event.
Cam McLelland had 10 strikeouts in the circle and drove in four runs as a hitter in the win over Chico.
McLelland went 4-for-4 with a triple, a home run and four RBIs in the win over Reno, while fellow senior Annie Hill drove in four of her own.
Junior Haylie Pledger had two doubles and two RBIs in the win. Freshman Jayda Yarrow also drove in a pair of runs.
Against the Dust Devils, McLelland and Hill both homered as the Tigers recorded 16 hits. Hill finished a single shy of the cycle with a double, triple, homer and four RBIs.
Maddie Lister and Hailee Lister both had two RBIs in the win.
The Tigers’ only loss over the weekend came against the host program, but three Douglas fielding errors caused six of the eight Raider runs to be unearned.
Hill tallied a pair of hits and an RBI for Douglas while freshman Ida Martin tripled and knocked in a run.
Douglas’ final game of the weekend was a 3-1 win over regional foe Spanish Springs.
The non-league game saw Douglas plate three runs in the top of the third en route to the win.
Pledger was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI while Cam Coats plated another runner.
In the circle, Pledger struck out nine while allowing five hits and one earned run in six innings.
