Genoa, Nev. — The Young Chautauqua performance was packed with proud parents as their children portrayed various historical characters Saturday, in what I think is the epitome of Family Day at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center. Some of the performers will be back for the Western Heritage Days in Genoa on May 3.
Douglas County Social Services’ “Elevate: Your Health. Your Future. Our Community” event filled up the dining room at the Community & Senior Center in a hurry on Saturday.
Natural Resources Conservation Service Hydrologist Jeff Anderson and Carson-Truckee Federal Water Master Chad Blanchard are hiking up to the Mount Rose snow telemetry site for the last manual snowpack measurement of the season.
Snow-water equivalent at Mount Rose and Carson Pass are both just a bit above 100 percent of median as of this morning. Carson Pass is short of Sunday’s median peak.
The median peak at Ebbetts Pass isn’t until Wednesday, and the 90 percent snow-water equivalent is almost 7 inches short and is likely to lose more to snowmelt over the next two days if the forecast holds.
Temperatures are forecast to climb to nearly 80 degrees by Thursday before dropping down into the 60s over the weekend.
A lake wind advisory is in effect for Tahoe 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. today with southwest winds of 15-20 mph, gusting to 35-40 mph driving 2-3-foot waves.
It’s probably going to be a little breezy in Carson Valley today with the wind out of the southwest 10-15 mph gusting to 25 mph. The high temperature is forecast to hit 65 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
