The Easter Bunny greeted children at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center during Toddler Time Thursday.

Children were eager to line up to take pictures with the bunny and receive a special treat from her basket, including 2-year-old Kiera Trout, who shared her stuffed bunny with the Easter Bunny and hopped back in line over and over to sit with her.

The Easter Bunny and other egg-citing events are expected throughout the Carson Valley leading up to Easter on April 20.

Kicking off the festivities, Trinity Lutheran Preschool performed an Easter concert Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

The Fox, Wolfpack, and Sea Turtles classes sung songs about the holiday including; “Old Rugged Cross,” “In His Hands,” “Jesus is Alive,” an acronym for Easter, and more.

Every year the preschool puts on a performance where the students sing songs about the holiday and retell the story of Jesus Christ’s resurrection, which is the reason for the celebrations.

Trinity Lutheran Preschool Director Samantha Tierney told the Record-Courier during past events, that the center does its best to teach students about the meaning behind holidays in a way children will understand.

“Lessons are taught through seasonal change to help students understand why we celebrate Easter and other holidays,” said Tierney. “During Spring, things start to regrow and bloom which represents new life and the resurrection of Jesus.”

The preschool will put on an Easter musical featuring the Bumblee, Butterflies and TK classes 5 p.m. April 15 at Trinity Lutheran Preschool.

The Easter Bunny is expected to make an appearance April 19 at Sierra Chef in Genoa 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Sierra Chef is also offering to-go Easter Dinners for $23 per person or $125 plus tax for a family of six. Quantities are limited. For more information call the Sierra Chef at 775-392-4417 for more information.

On Easter Sunday, St. Gall Catholic Church will host an egg hunt after their 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Masses.

Also on April 20, the Carson Valley Swim Center is hosting an underwater egg hunt beginning at 10:30 a.m. sharp and the pool will be open until noon. Baskets are available for $2 and the entry fee is $6 for adults and youth and seniors are $4.

The annual egg hunt hosted by The Carson Valley 20-30 Club is expected to kickoff at 1 p.m. April 20 at Lampe Park, located at 1324 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville, where approximately 12,000 eggs will be hidden throughout the park for children to find. The fields are divided into separate groups for ages 1-12 years old. Finders of the golden egg from each field will receive a special prize.

The Easter Bunny will be hopping around to greet children throughout the event and the Kids Fishing Derby crew will be taking sign-ups for the Fishing Derby taking place in June.

“We look forward to celebrating this Easter tradition with the community and creating lasting memories for families in the Carson Valley area,” said a Carson Valley 20-30 Club member.
