Man dies in Alpine crash

An 80-year-old man who was found in an upside down vehicle in Woodfords Canyon succumbed to his injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 2008 Chevrolet HHR was discovered 1:30 p.m. April 12 off Highway 88 near Snowshoe Springs Road where it had landed after the driver left the highway, hit a tree and overturned.

Initial reports were that the man was unresponsive and the vehicle cold to the touch, indicating it might have been some time since the collision occurred.

After removing the man from the vehicle, personnel on scene attempted to revive him but he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

There were no witnesses to the incident, which occurred at an unknown time.

The Record-Courier has reached out to the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office to learn the identity of the man.
