Genoa, Nev. — Interstate 80 is closed at the Nevada state line this morning due to snow, which was falling pretty quickly last night up top. While there are chain controls on 50 and 88, both are open. Kingsbury and Spooner are requiring chains or four-wheel drive with snow tires.
Nevada State Police and Carson City medics responded to a collision on Highway 50 at Golf Course located up Spooner Grade around 5:23 a.m. today. Last night the California Highway Patrol reported a snowblower off Highway 88 near Caples Lake on its side at 7:24 p.m. Tuesday.
The Carson Valley Arts Council is anteing up $250,000 toward the effort to purchase the movie theater according to a letter written by Council President Brian Fitzgerald and Cultural Arts Foundation President Diana Jones. The proposal goes to the Minden Town Board 5:30 p.m. today and to county commissioners on Thursday.
The snow depth at the Heavenly Valley super snow telemetry site indicated 37 inches up a half foot from Tuesday afternoon. Even with a very obvious spike in snow water equivalent it’s still only at two-thirds median for the year.
The windiest spot in the center of the Valley this morning was also one of the wettest with .52 inches of rain over the last 24 hours. The station located along Highway 88 between Mottsville and Centerville lanes recorded a 43 mph wind gust.
Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin recorded .81 inches of rain at his place. Sheridan recorded .86 inches, while Walley’s in Genoa had .65. The rain spread out a little across Carson Valley with Minden weather watcher Stan Kapler reporting .5 inches, bringing the total in the Valley up to 7.05 inches since Oct. 1.
The wind is forecast to die down to 10-15 mph out of the southwest with a high temperature of 48 degrees under sunny skies. Any snow in the forecast will wait until Thursday.
