Genoa, Nev. — The two big items before county commissioners today are the proposal to purchase Carson Valley Cinemas and the elimination of the elected office of public administrator. As of Wednesday, the written public comment was definitely favorable toward buying the theater.

East Fork Fire Chief Tod Carlini’s last day is Friday. This morning, county commissioners are scheduled to issue a proclamation recognizing his service to the county. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. today at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden.

Smoke from pile burning near Woodfords by the Zephyr Crew could be seen puffing away on the Bald Mountain Alertnevada wildfire camera on Wednesday evening. It prompted Minden Dispatch to report a fire around 3:55 p.m. because it looked like it was closer to Leviathan Mine.

A gas leak resulted in the evacuation of the Big 5 in the Ironwood Center around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday. Southwest Gas responded.

The opening reception and photo exhibit for Eagles & Agriculture is 5:30-7:30 p.m. today at the CVIC Hall. It appears from carsonvalleynv.org that there are still seats on most of the tours except the Owl Prowl, and at the Eagles & Ag Falconers’ Dinner.

Another day, another wind advisory, with 25-35 mph winds gusting up to 55 mph, with wind prone areas seeing 65 p.m. According to the National Weather Service, the advisory goes into effect 2 p.m. today through 4 p.m. Friday. Today’s high temperature is expected to hit 50 degrees.

A winter storm warning begins 10 a.m. today through noon Friday above 5,000 feet. Snow could pose a challenge to the evening commute over the mountains today and in the morning.

According to the forecast, we might see some rain or snow this morning before it changes to rain this afternoon. There’s a good chance it will do something, but whatever it is, there won’t be much. Minden is predicted to receive around a third of an inch of rain.
