Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County commissioners greenlit entering negotiations with the owner of Carson Valley Cinemas to purchase the building. There’s still a lot to do to finalize the $2.9 million purchase, including obtaining an appraisal.

To paraphrase a conversation from “Shakespeare in Love,” the natural condition of owning a theater “is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster. Strangely enough, it all turns out well. How? I don’t know. It’s a mystery.”

The elected office of public administrator was officially eliminated by an ordinance approved on Thursday by county commissioners, who said the position should be brought in-house.

It was snowing sideways near Highway 395 and Leviathan Mine Road this morning prompting chain controls through the Pine Nuts. The nvroads.com traffic cameras showed a little snow falling halfway up the Valley side of Kingsbury, but not at Daggett Summit as of 5:40 a.m.

Chains or four-wheel drive with snow tires are required over Kingsbury and in Glenbrook Canyon on Highway 50. The storm closed Interstate 80 at the state line for about an hour this morning, but as of 5:30 a.m. it was open again with controls, as are 50 and 88 through the Sierra.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Minden until 10 a.m. today, while the wind advisory is expected to expire around 1 p.m. Skies are predicted to clear this afternoon and stay that way through the weekend. Today’s high is forecast to hit 44 degrees.
