Douglas High School boys basketball knows its postseason route if it wants to make another deep regional tournament run this season.

The Tigers capped off the regular season Friday with a 50-34 win over Carson, sweeping the season series.

The Tigers will hit the road Tuesday as the No. 5 seed in regional play, traveling to face No. 4 Reno.

The Huskies have bested Douglas twice this season, 64-54 and 50-34.

“Don’t overlook people. I think sometimes our team comes in a little too confident. Confidence is a good thing, but we got to be ready to play. We haven’t beat Reno yet and I’m excited for the rematch,” said senior Luke Main.

SECOND QUARTER RUN

Douglas and Carson traded buckets through the first quarter Friday night before a Noah Kizer putback basket at the end of the first quarter gave the Tigers a 15-11 lead after one.

The orange and black put together a 13-0 run in the second quarter to take a 28-11 lead into the half and never looked back.

The run started with a Daniel Ward offensive rebound and bucket for the Tigers.

Douglas’ next trip down the floor turned into a Daron Kizer layup off an assist from  Main.

After Jesse Messick hit a pair of free throws to put Douglas up 10, 21-11, Caden Thacker went to work.

The senior guard slipped out of tight coverage with a crossover, knocking down a mid-range jumper after earning some space.

Thacker’s next trip down the floor he was on the receiving end of a pass from Noah Kizer, which he turned into a triple in the corner.

Douglas’ final bucket of the half came on a Noah Coyne bucket in the paint.

“It’s just a great group of guys on our team,” said Main. “It’s fun to go up and everyone play. It’s about the team morale and stuff. That’s what I enjoy most about beating Carson.”
