Genoa, Nev. — Douglas County will be seeking feedback from businesses on a proposed increase in the monthly telephone surcharge for 911 access after reintroducing an ordinance on Thursday. The charge would increase from $7.50 to $10 on trunk lines and from 75 cents to $1 on residential phone lines.

We may learn the identity today of the man who died in a fall from Harvey’s on Saturday. I’ll update the story I posted on Sunday if I find out more.

An elderly at-risk bicyclist was found safe near Monte Vista in Minden on Thursday night after a fairly thorough search by Douglas County authorities that lit up the area.

The first third of February saw nearly 4 inches of rain along the foothills of Carson Valley, with 3.91 inches in Fredericksburg between Jan. 31 and today and 3.87 inches in Sheridan, according to National Weather Service records.

That didn’t happen for the center of the Valley, with the Gardnerville Ranchos recording .91 inches and Minden-Tahoe Airport showing .22 inches during the same period.

There was plenty of precipitation from the first big atmospheric river of 2025, but it was mostly rain. If we’d had any real snow in January, we’d have been snorkeling across the Valley, but the ground soaked it up like a sponge.

We’re looking at a couple of mostly sunny days to start this week with highs in the mid-40s and lows in the teens. It might get cold enough to snow by Wednesday.
