The family of Anthony T. Smokey wishes to express our most profound gratitude to those who helped save the life of our husband, father, brother, uncle, and cousin.
We sincerely thank our local first responders: the Washoe Tribal Police Department and the East Fork Fire Paramedics.
On Feb. 2, while attempting to check on an elder in the Dresslerville Washoe Native Community, Tony was attacked by multiple pit bull dogs.
Thankfully, neighbors and family members stepped into action. Their heroic efforts allowed first responders to gain access to him.
Tony sustained life-threatening injuries, but thanks to the trauma surgeons at Renown Regional Medical Center and the precious gift of blood donation, he survived.
He is currently recovering from an initial surgery and his road to recovery will be long.
We will need to continue to rely on the expertise of many nurses, doctors, and specialists for months to come.
We understand there are many questions surrounding the details of this very disturbing event; however, we are asking for privacy during this time so we can focus on his healing.
The outpouring of love and support for Tony has been overwhelming. We wish to share a GoFundMe Account has been set up for those who wish to help with his expenses towards recovery. https://gofund.me/145ad36e
For many generations, the Smokey Family has called this valley home. We are ever so thankful for the support we have received from our tight-knit community. Your kindness means so much to us during this tremendously challenging time.
