Genoa, Nev. — Interested arts nonprofits are being asked to submit a request for proposal to operate the Carson Valley Cinemas, according to a post on the county web site. While the Carson Valley Arts Council is the likely candidate, there’s always a possibility someone else will step up. The deadline is Friday.

Planning commissioners recommended approval of a 29-unit subdivision on a 4.45-acre parcel between Gardnerville Elementary School and Chichester Estates on condition developers approach the school district about the possibility of an emergency gate.

An ordinance to allow five vacation home rentals north of Cave Rock was pulled from planning commissioners’ Tuesday agenda. I don’t know where it went, but if it’s still in the works, it would likely have to undergo a second reading.

I got word on Tuesday that the Ducks Unlimited annual dinner is sold out for Feb. 22.

A winter storm watch is in effect for Carson Valley and the rest of Western Nevada starting 2 a.m. Thursday and lasting through 4 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The watch predicts 1-5 inches of snow in the Valley and 6-12 inches in the foothills.

It's a brisk 11 degrees out this morning across the county. Once the sun comes out we’ll be looking at mostly sunny skies and a high of 44 degrees.
