Snow was piled up in downtown Genoa on Thursday morning. While that pile might still be there this morning, it's probably quite a bit shorter.

Genoa, Nev. — The California Highway Patrol is reporting that Highway 88 through Woodfords Canyon was a mess last night as trucks started getting stuck near Upper Crystal Springs Road around 6 p.m. The last note on the log was at 4:09 a.m., when it sounded like everyone was giving up for the night.
If you can get past the three stuck semis this morning, Highway 88 is closed east of Silver Lake to Kirkwood due to snow. Roads.dot.ca.gov is indicating all tractor-trailers are prohibited on Interstate 80 from Applegate to the Nevada state line. Chain controls are in effect for other vehicles and over Highway 50.
I received 2.05 inches of precipitation over the last two days, which isn’t quite as much as the 2.11 inches recorded by Jeff Garvin in Fredericksburg.
With around 21 inches of snow at Heavenly’s SnoTel site this morning, I expect we’ll be hearing the booms of avalanche control this morning.
The temperature remains well above freezing this morning, but the wind has picked up and skies are clearing, so that could change quickly. Be careful out on the roads today, particularly if you’re driving in the Sierra.
A winter weather advisory for Carson Valley expires at 10 a.m., despite the temperature hitting 40 degrees at Minden-Tahoe Airport at 6 a.m., just three degrees shy of today’s forecast high. I guess it could still snow, with the west wind 10-15 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
