East Fork firefighters stow their gear after working a house fire on Lyle after lunch on Thursday. East Fork is hosting training at Station 14 in Minden this week, so there were a bunch handy when the fire call came in.

Genoa, Nev. — About three-score Douglas officials and residents attended the State of the County address hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and featuring Jenifer Davidson at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center on Thursday night.

I was sitting in the center’s Grandview Dining Room on Thursday when I got word that Paul Lockwood died. A long-time member of Young at Heart, Lockwood and Bob Cook were advocates for getting the center approved and built. May they both rest in peace.

East Fork and Tahoe-Douglas firefighters responded to a fire at 841 Lyle Way around 12:47 p.m. Thursday. The initial report was smoke was coming from the attic. The house didn’t show any external damage that I could see, but the utilities were shut off and the Building Department responded. Lyle was shut down for the response until around 3 p.m.

Kristophers Ristorante in downtown Minden is closing after dinner tonight, according to owner Fred Simon. The closure marks roughly six years since the restaurant moved from Indian Hills to Minden.

The Douglas County Historical Society is hosting the Boy and Girl Scouts at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center for Family Day 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.  The Scouts will be there at 11:30 a.m. I’m told the boys will have their Lego racetrack and the girls will be selling cookies.

March will wait a day before roaring, with a new storm forecast to arrive early Sunday morning. I have a feeling all those plants who thought spring has arrived might be in for a surprise next week.

Today and Saturday, the forecast calls for sunny to mostly sunny skies with a high temperature approaching 70 degrees and wind calm until it isn’t.
