Good Governance Group speakers will be talking taxes during January.
They kicked off the discussion this week with a general discussion before digging into local property taxes on Tuesday with Douglas County Assessor Trent Tholen and Clerk-Treasurer Amy Burgans.
Tholen will talk about how the county assesses property, whether residential, commercial or personal, according to the Group.
The deadline to appeal a tax bill is Jan. 15 in order to appear before the Douglas County Board of Equalization in February.
Burgans is scheduled to discuss the numerous taxing agencies in Douglas County and how each receives a share of the tax pie.
Members are encouraged to bring their property tax bills to the meeting noon Tuesday at the COD Casino in downtown Minden.
Group members will be talking about the county budget on Jan. 21. Visit https://county-douglas-nv-budget-book.cleargov.com/14898/introduction/transmittal-letter for more information about the budget.
