Shortly after opening the Genoa Wellness Spa in 2022, Brandy Thomson saw a need for a local café in Nevada’s oldest settlement.
“When I would open in the morning, I noticed a lot of people would stop by and ask where the best place to get a cup of coffee was,” said Thomson.
That’s when she realized that Genoa lacked a place where people can come in and mingle over a cup of joe.
The open space, signs on the wall, and comfortable seating whether by a fire, at a table, or on the patio, provides a sense of homey and comfort, which is just what Thomson was going for.
“The vibe is very welcoming and positive,” said Thomson. “We wanted it to be a place where our community felt welcome and could be themselves.”
Thomson said originally, the plan was just a coffee shop, but when the space next to the Spa became available it had a kitchen which led to the expansion of what Flutter and Buzz Café would offer.
Flutter and Buzz Café currently serves espresso, craft beverages and food, along with organic and gluten free options.
“I am a cancer survivor, so I understand the importance and benefits of clean eating and want to provide those options,” said Thomson.
Thomson said the coffee is certified organic, certified fair trade, and certified mold free, the syrups are made with pure cane sugar and only contain four ingredients, and the food options are organic and fresh.
Some drinks are house crafted such as the Salty Cowgirl, an iced espresso with white mocha and salted cherry caramel foam, and the Brockalious lavendar macha which is an iced lavender infused macha with cold foam. The drinks were created by Thomson’s daughter, Addison and her son Brock.
In the future, Flutter and Buzz Café plans to expand further, providing options for kids, an outdoor area for corn hole and more.
“We have some plans, but at this time we want to get good at what we are doing and then expand,” said Thomson.
Minden resident Julie Shephard visited the Flutter and Buzz Café for the first time on Sunday and loved it so much she called up some friends to join her the following day.
“We decided to come in after a hike,” said Shephard. “It’s a cute and friendly spot.”
Open Thursday- Monday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Flutter and Buzz Café is located at 2285 Main St, Genoa.
