Five people have applied for the two vacant spots on the Douglas County Planning Commission.

Dave Nelson and Mark Neddenriep resigned their positions on the board. Nelson was elected to the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District.

One of the district trustees Nelson is replacing is former chairman James McKalip, who has applied for a position on the planning commission.

McKalip ran for Douglas County commissioner in the last election, as did fellow applicant Brian Dempsey. The other three applicants are Grant Leonard, Don Morelli and Dan St. John.

County commissioners have a busy Thursday ahead of them, including appointments of two entire Lake Tahoe district boards where no one sought election. They won’t start on the appointments until 2 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., in Minden.

Sierra Estates has six applicants for five seats and Zephyr Knolls has seven applicants seeking five seats.

Douglas County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Lake Tahoe members Kelly Gardner and Staci Baker are seeking reappointment to the board. Melissa Lynn Ward and Elisabeth Lernhardt have also applied.

Jacks Valley resident Brenda Robertson is the only person applying for the East Fork Township seat.

Four people have applied for a seat on the Airport Advisory Board, including current members Jim Lee Jr. and Richard Chapman. Longtime soaring advocate Linda Mae Hivert and resident V. Dale Pelz Jr. have applied for one of the three open seats. Member Al Browne is not seeking reappointment.

Rick B. Myers and C. Denise Huiner are seeking reappointment to one of the three seats on the Genoa Historic Commission. Molly Dahl and Cindy Webb are also seeking a seat.

Former Douglas County commissioner Doug Johnson is seeking appointment to the Carson Water Subconservancy Board. Nelson is seeking reappointment as the member at large.

Frank Godecke and David Hussman are seeking reappointment to the Douglas County Water Conveyance Advisory Committee. Resident Doug Robbins has also applied for one of the two available seats.

County commissioners approved an ordinance extending terms for the board members to four years at their Dec. 19, 2024, meeting.

Not every panel has an excess of applicants, with Andrea Rajeski and Doug Sonnemann the only two applicants seeking reappointment to the Senior Services and Public Transit Advisory Board.

The county is seeking applicants for the public-at-large seats on the Debt Management Commission.

Anyone interested in applying may email clerk@douglasnv.us or call 775-782-9014 by 5 p.m. Jan. 31.
