Genoa, Nev. — Parks and Recreation Advisory Board members voted in favor of acquiring the Carson Valley Cinemas on Tuesday night. Public comment was overwhelmingly favorable, even after around 80 people sat through the presentation.
The $2.9 million asking price for the cinemas would have to be confirmed through an appraisal before the county could actually either lease or purchase the property. Funding would come from room tax, which explains why the county would even look at it.
Owner Kelly Bland said current operator Russ Levinson’s lease is up at the end of March, which is two years on the nose after he arrived. Levinson is ready for a change, Bland told the crowd.

The Sheriff’s Office issued a warning about brushing scams where someone sends you a package with a QR code inside to find out who sent it. It’s a phishing maneuver to get you to click a link, much like the scam texts and emails we get pretty much every day and it’s best never to go down that rabbit hole, if you can help it.
