First snow of 2025 a little on the light side

Chains or four-wheel drive with snow tires are being required on most roads at Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Douglas Fire rescuers responded to a report of a vehicle on its side 9:30 a.m. at Lakeside Cove Road and Highway 50. No injuries were reported, but firefighters reported conditions were extremely icy.

Road controls are a little less restrictive on Highway 395 over Indian Hills and through the Pine Nuts, according to nvroads.com, where chains or snow tires are required.

A winter weather advisory continues through 4 p.m. today as light snow continued to fall in Carson Valley.

Motorists didn’t have to go into the mountains to experience slick conditions, with snow on ice on Foothill Road, Genoa and Waterloo lanes.

Highway 395 from South Sunridge Drive through Minden and Gardnerville was fairly easy going.

Heavenly Mountain Resort reported 8 inches of snow fell overnight.

Sunday morning saw not just the first measurable snow in Carson Valley of 2025, but for the entire winter, so far.

Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin reported 3 inches of snow at around 8 a.m. Two inches of snow fell a mile north of Genoa.

There was around an inch of snow on the ground in Minden and Gardnerville.
