A 39-year-old Gardnerville man is in custody in El Dorado County after he was arrested in Alpine County in what authorities are calling a “brutal physical assault.”

Jorden James Gaestel was arrested on Tuesday as a result of an investigation into a person who had sustained life threatening injuries at Condo Bear Condos in Bear Valley around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Gaestel was interviewed by investigators on Tuesday and as a result he was taken into custody on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem.

Gaestel was transported to the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe, where he was booked.

The victim remains in critical condition.

This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information will be released at this time, said Alpine County Spokesman J.T. Chevallier.
