More than a half-dozen vehicles were parked along the entrance road to the Dangberg Historic Home Ranch containing visitors watching a handful of bald eagles enjoy a meal out in the field.

That enthusiasm for watching eagles is translated into the annual Eagles & Agriculture event which opens 5:30 p.m. Thursday with a reception and photography exhibit in the CVIC Hall in Minden.

The four day event celebrates the Carson Valley’s agriculture featuring tours through Douglas County’s Wetlands, barns, and ranches, with photography workshops and opportunities to capture the Valley’s falcons and wildlife.

Tours begin 8 a.m. Friday with Wetlands Birding and then the Barn Tour 1:30 p.m. The Eagles & Ag Falconer’s Dinner is 5:30 p.m. at the Carson Valley Inn.

The popular Owl Prowl Tour on Saturday afternoon was already sold out by Wednesday. That could be the fate of the Ranch & Eagle Tour 8 a.m. Saturday morning by Monday morning.

The event also features a two-day photography workshop, that starts at Minden Mill Distillery 6-9 p.m. Feb. 8 and then heads out into the field 7-10 a.m. on Feb. 9.

Also on Sunday is the Raptor Highway & Byway Tour 8-11:30 a.m. starting at the Carson Valley Inn.

The four-days of tours and events surrounding the Valley’s raptors and ranches is the continuation of the annual event that first started in 2003.

According to Douglas County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Alicia Main, last year’s event brought in 263 visitors to the Valley with many locals taking advantage of the event and getting to know their community in a way they never experienced before.
