A woman accused of pistol whipping someone in an effort to recover Chattles the emotional support pit bull admitted to a count of battery with a deadly weapon on Tuesday.
Christy Marie Field, 39, admitted she used a firearm to strike a person who was trying to prevent her stepson from stealing the dog from a Gardnerville Ranchos home on Oct. 3, 2024.
Matthew Americus Field, 20, of Carson City admitted to a count of robbery in connection with the case.
Apparently Tattles belonged to Matthew’s father and ended up in a shelter where he was adopted by the Ranchos family.
In an effort to retrieve Tattles, Matthew grabbed the dog and ran, only to be tackled by the resident. Christy Field was in the car when she saw Matthew was in trouble, so she grabbed a pistol and hit the resident with it.
While prosecutors are recommending probation on the charge, Christy Field acknowledged she could be sent to prison for up to 10 years.
Matthew Field faces up to 15 years in prison, though prosecutors are recommending a suspended 10-year sentence at his next hearing on April 1.
According to prosecutor Ric Casper, when the Ranchos couple discovered Chattles wasn’t abandoned, they turned the dog back over to Field’s father.
“This was just one stupid decision after another,” Casper said.
