Douglas High School baseball plated at least one run in five of six innings Tuesday night at Ron McNutt Field at Carson High School.
Sophomore Jared Peters was responsible for RBIs in three of those five innings, finishing his day 2-for-4 with a team-high five RBIs in the Tigers’ 13-2 win over the Senators.
Douglas put up a six-spot in the second inning, taking an 8-0 lead.
Blaine Bilderback smacked a one-out single to left and Grayson Kamper plated him on a triple to right field, turning a 1-0 edge into a 3-0 advantage.
Five pitches later, Luke Main plated Kamper on a 2-0 pitch that he lofted to left field, giving Douglas a 4-0 lead.
Douglas took a 6-0 lead after Main and Aiden Tarlo came around to score on a pair of Senator fielding errors.
Titus Gocke scored Jackson Ovard on a sacrifice fly after Ovard doubled, giving Douglas a 7-0 edge.
JT Lopez, who was courtesy running for Jeffrey Peters, scored the final run of the frame on a Jared Peters RBI single to left.
Gocke and Tarlo both finished the game with two RBIs while Kamper and Main each tallied one.
DELANGE DEALING
Senior Duncan DeLange allowed just three hits and one earned run, improving his record as a starter to 2-0 this spring.
His stuff left the Senators fooled more often than not, striking out 10 in the win.
“My goal for this season is to blow it by as many guys as possible,” said DeLange. “My best pitch is definitely my fastball. … I have a lot of confidence in that and (Jeffrey) Peters behind the plate.”
In nine innings this spring, DeLange has done just that, recording 18 strikeouts.
The senior said his catcher is a big part of his early-season success on the mound.
“It’s so comforting (having Peters behind the plate), especially with his arm strength. It gives me a lot of freedom on the bump to mix in my leg kick,” said DeLange.
In the fifth, Peters caught the Senators’ leadoff hitter trying to steal second base after a single and assisted on a DeLange backward ‘K’ on a 3-2 pitch.
Peter Ziegler stepped in for the sixth and final inning on the hill and didn’t miss a beat. He fired seven strikes on seven pitches and struck out two of the three hitters he faced.
Tuesday night’s win was the seventh in a row for Douglas High School over Carson.
UP NEXT: Douglas (3-1, 1-0 in Class 5A North league play) will head to Galena (0-2, 0-1) Saturday for an 11 a.m. start against the Grizzlies.
