Genoa, Nev. — Heavenly reported a yard of new snow fell over the past week, with 8 inches of that since Monday morning. There are still road controls over Kingsbury and Highway 50 at the Lake, but the sun and plows should take care of those in good order.
With two weeks left until the opening of irrigation season on April 1, the Carson River Basin is up to 95 percent of snow water equivalent for today’s date. We’re pretty close to a second average year in a row, thanks to late season storms.
With some new snow up in the mountains, the Nevada Division of Forestry will burn piles at Spooner Lake and Backcountry State Park south of Tunnel Creek to reduce excess vegetation, so don’t be surprised if you see smoke.
Monday saw several spin-outs and the like up at Lake Tahoe. It snowed on and off in spots across Carson Valley, but nothing stuck or posed much of a hazard.
The Gardnerville Elementary School Parent Teacher Student Organization fundraiser is 4-9 p.m. today at Firehouse Subs and Big Chicken in Minden. The school will receive a percentage of all sales during that time, according to the schools.
The East Fork Fire Protection District meeting typically held today has been delayed to March 25. The meet at the district offices on Library Lane in Minden.
The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 49 degrees and the wind out of the northwest at 5 mph this afternoon. Quite a change from Monday.
