On Tuesday, Douglas County sold two series of bonds to fund the construction of a new Justice Center, Chief Financial Officer Kathy Lewis said.
The first series in the amount of $34.545 million was sold to RW Baird at an effective rate of 4.46 percent. Three bids on the 30-year bonds were received with 4.46-4.66-percent rates.
The second series of bonds in the amount of $14 million was sold to the best bidder of five, Jefferies, at an effective rate of 3.20 percent.
Lewis said it will be mid-April before the money to build the new center will be in the county coffers.
The new justice center is located on Buckeye Road near the Minden Maintenance Yard.
The county is conducting four days of budget hearings starting Monday at the historic Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden.
“These hearings will provide an opportunity for county officials and the public to review and discuss funding allocations for various departments and services,” county spokesman Eric Cachinero said.
Hearings begin 10 a.m. Monday with Finance, followed by the Sheriff, Community Development, Emergency Management and Information Technology.
Tuesday’s hearings begin 10 a.m. with the District Attorney, followed by the Clerk-Treasurer and Public Works Roads.
Hearings continue 10 a.m. March 31 and April 1.
“These budget hearings will play a crucial role in shaping the county’s financial planning for the upcoming fiscal year,” officials said. “Residents are encouraged to attend and provide input on funding decisions that impact the community.”
