A Carson City man was identified as the person killed in a fatal collision Thursday on Highway 50 in Glenbrook Canyon
Brian A. Vasquez-Gonzalez, 24, was a passenger in one of the vehicles.
The collision occurred when the driver of a Toyota Tacoma was driving the wrong way in the westbound lanes just before 7 a.m. and collided with a westbound Subaru, Sgt. Chris Brown said.
Three other people were injured in the collision.
The second traffic fatality involving alleged impairment in under 24 hours was discovered early Friday morning on Highway 89 not far from the junction with Highway 4 in Alpine County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Department of Transportation worker who was checking for rock slides spotted a beer can and what might have been a blood stain on the road at around 3:25 a.m.
The worker turned around and saw a man lying in a ditch, according to the preliminary report.
While en route CHP officers were advised by Alpine County fire and sheriff’s personnel that the man was deceased and that a Honda quad had gone over the embankment.
According to a release issued on Friday morning, CHP officers found evidence that the man was riding south on Highway 89 when he turned sharply and was thrown from the quad.
The quad continued over the embankment around 500 feet and landed on the bank of the East Fork of the Carson River.
No helmet was located associated with the crash and there was no evidence that the man had been hit by another vehicle.
Alcohol is suspected as contributing to the crash, according to the CHP.
Both Highway 89 and 4 are closed for the season a short distance south of the crash.
