Genoa, Nev. — East Fork firefighters responded to a structure fire at 878 Vista Park Drive in the Valley Vista neighborhood near Jacks Valley at 5:20 p.m. Sunday after a neighbor reported smoke in the home. Firefighters had initial knockdown within 15 minutes of arriving on scene.

Coventry Cross parishioners took their service outside on Sunday morning after an external heater unit sent smoke into the Minden church around 10 a.m.

The Nevada Legislature is considering increasing the penalty for someone who fails to stop or move over and causes serious injury or death of a first responder could face a Category B felony. Assembly Bill 54 is making its way through committees.

The effort is punctuated by the release of a video showing Tahoe Douglas firefighters and others jumping out of the way of a vehicle during a March 5 head-on collision on Highway 50.

I’m checking on Friday’s death related to a quad crash on Highway 89 between Carson River Resort and the seasonal closure at Highway 4.

County commissioners begin a four-day budget slog 10 a.m. today with a presentation by the Finance Department. The Sheriff will present his budget before lunch if all goes according to plan, followed by Community Development at 1 p.m. All meetings are at the Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden. It will be too nice to be indoors today if the forecast holds, with sunny skies and a high temperature of 74 degrees. The breeze will pick up out of the west at 5 whole mph.
