Genoa, Nev. — There was a pretty good crowd at the Job Fair and Career Expo at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center on Thursday. There were a lot of Marine-related booths present and accounted for at the Expo.


“The Sweet Delilah Swim Club” begins its final weekend 7:30 p.m. today. Matinees are 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with one more evening show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the CVIC Hall. Visit carsonvalleycommunitytheatre.org to buy advance tickets online or the box office at the Copeland today.


It requires $1.3 million a mile to rebuild a rural road in Douglas County and $2 million for a road with curb and gutter, commissioners were told on Tuesday. You can maintain a road for $50,000-$55,000 per mile, according to Transportation Engineering Manager Jon Erb.


According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Nevada’s 5.8 percent unemployment in January was the highest in the country, with California and Michigan close behind. Douglas was at 5.2 percent as of the end of February.


There were a couple of 50-something wind gusts in several spots around Carson Valley on Thursday, including 55 mph along Highway 88 between Mottsville and Centerville, 53 mph in Alpine View, 52 mph in Fish Springs and 51 mph in Sheridan.


There wasn’t much moisture with this storm over Thursday. Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin reported receiving a fiftieth of an inch. My gauge had a twentieth in it this morning.


There’s some question as to whether an atmospheric river is headed this way. As of this morning, the forecast is calling for a third of an inch of rain in Minden on Monday. That might translate into some snow in higher elevations, or it might not.


There’s a remote possibility we’ll see a little more rain early this morning, but otherwise the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 56 degrees. The wind will be out of the west at 5-15 mph.
