Spider hunting in Ruhenstroth

Last week, our daughter Shannon noticed an unusual spider web in the rocks in the front yard. There was no spider in it and it looked like a tunnel going back in the rocks. We thought it was most unusual and figured the spider had left.

Healing Arts Gallery opens at Carson Valley Medical Center

A collaborative effort between the Carson Valley Medical Center Hospital Foundation and the Carson Valley Arts Council has resulted in the creation of the Healing Arts Gallery with the work of 15 area artists on display at the medical center.

Applications due Aug. 13 for 4-H shooting sports match

Nevada 4-H is accepting applications for the 2010 Nevada State 4-H Shooting Sports Match Sept. 18 in Carson City. The event starts 7 a.m. at the Capitol City Gun Club and ends with a 7 p.m. awards ceremony at the Carson City Community Center on Williams Street. Lunch will be served at the Carson Rifle Range.

Nevada radon poster contest offers cash prizes

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension's Radon Education Program is sponsoring a poster contest for Nevada children ages 9-14. The first-place winner will receive $50 and the second- and third-place entries will receive $25 each.
