Judith Frederick Hatch-Perkins passed away Sunday, December 19, from the ravages of Parkinson’s disease.
Judy was born on May 23, 1942 in New Rochelle, N.Y. to Frederick Seacord and Rosemary McKenzie Seacord. She grew up in Larchmont N.Y. and enjoyed summer vacations on Martha’s Vineyard, MA. She came west to attend Mills College, Oakland, CA.
Judy was a very talented artist in the mediums of watercolor, drawing and woodcarving. She authored 2 books, The Dragonfly of Lookout Mountain 1996 and The Fire Lookout’s Survival Manual 2017. She was a wonderful K-1 teacher in 4 Valley schools, Scarselli, Gardnerville, Pinion Hills and, finally, Minden.
In 2002, Judy married another long-time Valley teacher, Charles “Bud” Perkins. After retirement, Judy and Bud relocated to Martha’s Vineyard and enjoyed 10 years of island life. 5 years ago, they returned to their Carson Valley home when the effects of Judy’s Parkinson’s became apparent. They wanted to be near family and friends.
Judy’s kind, gentle ways and independent spirit will live on with her friends and loved ones.
