Susan Ann Doolittle, our beloved mother, passed away at the age of 91 on February 8 2021, in Gardnerville, NV. She was born on May 16, 1929 in Thermopolis, Wyoming to Lucy Eileen Kinney Orndoff and Charles Duard Orndoff. When Susan was small, her mother, sister, and she moved to southern California. As a young woman, Susan worked at Don Lee TV as one of the youngest female film editors. In 1950, she met the love of her life, James Eugene Doolittle, in Hollywood. They began a 67 year adventure, working and traveling in California, Nevada, and Arizona. They welcomed their daughter, Nancy Eileen, in 1952, and their son, James Raymond, in 1960.Always an avid reader, Susan named her first car Mehitabel. Later, Susan wrote historical articles and a book about pioneer life in the northwestern Sierra Nevada foothills. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and created Quilts of Valor for veterans. In her 50’s, Susan and Jim served as Peace Corps volunteers in the Solomon Islands. Assigned to a secondary school, Susan created a library with the help of student interns. Until the final week of her life, Susan was engaged in current events, social justice, and community activities.Susan is survived by her daughter, Nancy, her son, Jim (Tammy), grandson Ramsey, great grandson, Tyler, great granddaughter Tess, niece Diane, and nephews Chris (Mary) and Bill. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, mother Eileen, granddaughter Leah, and sister Theodosia.
