Lois Weigel passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 30, 2021. She was 91.
Lois was born in Fallon, NV to Tom and Vena Corkill on August 9, 1930. She grew up on a ranch in Fallon helping milk cows, driving the hay derrick for stacking and hauling, and many other farming related duties.
At age 10, Lois became very active in 4H. During that time, she baked, cooked meals for hay men, canned fruits, vegetables, and meats, until her family was able to purchase a refrigerator. When she was 16, Lois won a trip to Chicago for canning, as well as, winning a National Scholarship for her canning skills.
In addition to canning, Lois was also a prolific seamstress. She made all of her clothes, and after marriage, she made her children’s clothes as well. Eventually, Lois would become a 4H leader, teaching others to cook and sew.
Lois worked for the Department of Taxation for 30 years, heading the Information Processing Section, where all the typing for the Department took place.
She was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Gabbs, Nevada. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 1006 in Carson City, Nevada. She was a Past President of the Eagles and belongs to the Past Presidents Club. And finally, she was also a Charter Member and Past President of the Stein Club.
In her later years, Lois enjoyed being with her family and friends, playing cards, Scrabble, Cribbage, and working on puzzles. She even continued a bit with her sewing, by hand embroidering quilt squares and Sun Bonnet Sues.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Vena Corkill, her brother Richard Corkill, son Ernie Weigel (11/2009), son Gary Weigel (9/2012), and daughter Evelyn Mattheus (2/2020).
She leaves behind her son Normal Weigel, grandson Josh Smith, and granddaughter Megan Koceja, brother Roger Corkill, sister Lauretta (Babe) Davis, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Medical College of Wisconsin (8701 W Watertown Plank Road, Milwaukee, Wisconsin) or to the charity of your choosing.
At her request, there will be no services.
