The Fire Fighter’s Prayer:
“When I am called to duty, God, wherever flames may rage, give me strength to save a life, whatever be its age...”.
On July 24, 2022, Steve Manzano Martinez (61) passed away at his home, surrounded by loved ones and friends. He was a beloved father, husband, son, brother, and firefighter. Steve, a native Nevadan born in Reno, was a firefighter of 23 years with the Truckee Meadows and Reno Fire Departments. Steve lived in Minnesota during the winter months and spent the summers in Reno. He is survived by his wife, Kim, and three kids, Carrie, Kyle, and Shannon. He was “Fire Papa” to five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. He was a lover of family, hockey, mint chocolate chip shakes, classic rock, and M.A.S.H. He was a hater of eye drops, vegetables, and diet soda. Before his passing, he said, “I have seen some horrific things as a firefighter/paramedic...people who should have died, but were clearly protected by a guardian angel. I am ready to be somebody’s guardian angel.” We are forever grateful for the time we had with you and can’t think of a better person to watch over our community. We love you Fire Papa!
