Carl W. Jackson, resident of Carson City, Nevada, for 42 years, passed away peacefully at his home on March 4, 2023, at the age of 88 after a brief battle with COVID.
He entered the Coast Guard on November 15, 1951, and was medically retired due to physical disability on July 1, 1953, after surviving 2-years in an iron lung battling Polio.
After his release from the Coast Guard, he went to work for his father’s business, Independent Foundry Supply Company in Commerce, California. He quickly discovered he did not care to work behind a desk. He loved to drive. Over the years he was both a long and short haul truck driver. He drove logging trucks, tow trucks, tour buses and school buses. Two of his favorite truck driving jobs were hauling granite blocks from a quarry in Temecula, California, and U.S. Mail for R.B. Matheson from Los Angeles to Seattle and back.
He and his wife of 53 years, Margaret (Lollie) Jackson, also owned and operated a campground and RV resort in Lakehead, California, and a rustic lodge at Big Bear Lake, California, in the 1970’s.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife in October of 2014, his parents Carl Devoy Jackson and Etta Mae Jackson, and son-in-law Robert Crabtree. He is survived by his 6 children: two sons, Frank Gray and Carl D. Jackson both of Carson City, Nevada, and 4 daughters Vivian Miltenberger (Terry) of Dayton, NV, Cindy Mayer (Valentine) of Aliso Viejo, CA, Jennifer Crabtree of San Dimas, CA, and Carla Wilson (Wayne) of Carson City, NV, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of life in honor of Carl will be held at Calvary Chapel Church of Carson City at 1635 E. Clearview Drive, Carson City NV 89701, on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate to the Nevada Humane Society of Carson City, 549 Airport Road, Carson City, NV, 89701. Please make your donations in his name.
