Shaun cared deeply for life and her passion was exemplified in her personal and professional relationships. Her caring, kindness, and compassion left a deep impression on those who crossed paths with her. She always welcomed her children’s friends to holidays and visits, and generously shared her expertise when they approached her with health or medical questions. Her granddaughters affectionately said that while they were spoiled by most of their family, they were “spoiled rotten,” with candy and stuffed animals by “Grandma Shaun.” Shaun’s generosity and compassion extended to all aspects of her life. She made sure that birds were always provided seed at her home, and that any animal that was found injured was attempted to be nursed back to health. She left many she encountered feeling cared for, seen, and impacted for the better.
Shaun loved dogs and nature and throughout her entire life enjoyed exploring the landscapes of Nevada, the Sierras, and any part of the country that she visited. Early memories she fondly shared included fishing and camping with her dad and family, raising squirrels at their family home, and spending her time outdoors. Her love for nature continued all her life, and she took her family on many camping trips, white water rafting trips, and day hikes. One of the highlights of her life was summiting Mt. Shasta for her 50th birthday.
Shaun leaves a legacy of devotion to her family, who were central to her, and a life of service to her community as a Registered Nurse, a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC), and an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Nevada – Reno, where she will be remembered for how she engaged her undergraduate and graduate students, sharing her wealth of experience and love of medicine and preparing them to be excellent care givers.
Shaun is survived by her husband Carl, her children Erin, Eric (Katie), and Caitlin (Erin), her granddaughters, Colbie and Camille Hasty, her mother Shirley McClure, her sister Sonya Campbell (Ryan), her brother Ken, her nephews, and nieces (John Elder (Breianna), Brian Elder, (Marie) and families; Cody Petersen (Angela), Tawnya Toft (Steven), and families; Quinn and Shannon Campbell; Hannah Hasty, Sarah (Drew) and Morgan Wills), and brothers-in-law Bill Petersen and Robert Hasty (Amanda).
