On October 31, 2022, Dr. Renny Joel Avey, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 75 due to complications of Parkinson’s disease.
Renny was born in California to parents Lois and Clarence Avey. He grew up with his two brothers on Long Gulch Ranch in the Sierra Nevada mountain range near Yosemite National Park. It was on the ranch that Renny developed a lifelong passion for nature and a deep spiritual connection to the land.
After high school, Renny completed his undergraduate studies at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He attended Oregon State University for his Master’s degree, then the University of Hawaii for his PhD. After completing his doctoral degree, he became a tenured professor of Agricultural Business at his alma mater Cal Poly, where he taught for over 30 years. He was well loved in the department by administration, fellow teachers, and students alike.
Renny enjoyed nothing more than being out on a river, a fly fishing rod in hand, casting a line in the cool, crisp mountain air. He was a kind and honest man, a beloved father, and a doting grandfather.
Renny was preceded in death by his loving parents, Clarence and Lois. He is survived by his wife Sharon, his daughter Tori, his granddaughter Eliana, his brothers Gary and Craig, and other family members. His memory also lives on in the many close friendships he made throughout life.
Right now the family is focused on healing privately, and no public service is planned.
