William “Bill” Marsh, age 89, of Gardnerville, Nevada, passed on May 21, 2023.
He was born on July 21, 1933, to Emer and Rita Marsh in Oakland, California. He served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1957, and was a veteran of the Korean War, in the 312th Communications Squadron. He received four service medals, including National Defense, United Nations, Korean and Good Conduct.
Upon returning to the States, he bought land and built a cabin in South Lake Tahoe with his father. On his vacations, he worked at The Sahara casino as a busboy so he could play on the beaches and slopes during the day.
He married Carolyn Simmons at the First Presbyterian Church in South Lake Tahoe during a blizzard on December 21, 1963. The couple welcomed two daughters, Melinda, and Lisa, and raised them in the Oakland Hills in another home he had built with his father and brother. He worked for Western Electric in Oakland for 35 years as an installer, and manager.
Bill had a larger-than-life personality and always had a story or joke to tell. He was also a savant when it came to engineering or building anything, from an awning to block snow to rope swings for his kids. One of his passions was owning acreage in Sonoma and taking the family there on weekends. He taught his daughters how to drive a tractor, read a map, and appreciate raw nature.
He is survived by his daughters, Melinda Pickert and Lisa Terrell; grandchildren Jessica Pickert-Witt, Ryan and Jacob Pickert, Trevor Marsh, Laney, and Devin Terrell; great-grandchildren Aaron and Jonathan Pickert-Witt, Annabelle, and Elena Marsh.
He is predeceased by his wife, Carolyn Marsh; his parents, Emer and Rita Marsh; and brothers, Robert Marsh, and Lawrence Marsh.
He will be interred at Happy Homestead cemetery in South Lake Tahoe. No services are planned at this time
