Elfriede Erna Marianne Short, age 85, of Gardnerville, Nevada passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Carson Tahoe Hospital.
Elfriede was born on May 2, 1937, in Detmold, Germany. She worked as a Dental assistant and Seamstress until she met the love of her life and married Russell Short in 1962. While Russell was in the Air Force, they traveled all over the United States with their daughters, stationed in North Dakota, Mississippi, Oregon, Nevada and Florida. They were even able to return to Germany once. In 1974 Russell retired from the Air Force and they moved to Gardnerville, Nevada.
In 1979 she was one of the original 13 artists to open the East Fork Art Gallery. She was a talented artist. Locally well known for her paintings whether on canvas, glass ornaments or wooden eggs.
She loved the outdoors, blue skies and all the animals big or small. She enjoyed working in the garden as much as hiking a mountain. The plants in the house as well as the garden thrived under her green thumb. She loved to host parties at her home and was an amazing cook. She also was talented with a sewing machine and was able to make not only her daughter’s wedding dress but also one for a dear friend’s daughter. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years. But most of all she loved children especially her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed taking them camping every summer while they were young. Once Russell retired from work, they enjoyed spending their time camping and hiking. And She loved shoes!
Elfriede was preceded in death by her husband in 2021. She is survived by her daughters Cindy Grant (Steve) and Susan LeGrand, her grandchildren; Jennifer Maxson (Craig), Andrew LeGrand, Chris Grant, Brien Grant (Sabrina), Stephanie Grant; and great grandchildren Madison and Russell Maxson.
She was well loved and will be deeply missed.
