Walter Harris Rooks Sr., son of Wilbert Henry Rooks and Sophie Leola Roberts-Rooks, a twenty-seven-year resident of Fallon, Nevada passed away Tuesday, March 21st in his home.
The dedicated great-grandfather whose hobbies included finishing intricate jigsaw puzzles was most proud of his family’s accomplishments.
Born November 26, 1938 in the Bronx, New York City, Walter took great pride serving his country as a United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant.
His twenty-two years of service included multiple tours of duty during the Vietnam War. Once a Marine, always a Marine, Walter never retired from the Corps, and after being honorably discharged, continued working as a jet mechanic, finishing his career at Naval Air Station Fallon.
Personal achievements aside, anyone who knew Walter well knows he was most proud of the loving family he began with Barbara Nepkins more than fifty years ago.
They each live on in the memories of their children Kevin, Barbara Lisa, Sharon, Walter, and Wayne, in addition to Walter’s brother Washington Herbert Rooks, and many other loving family members.
Walter’s family welcomes close friends to join them at the Smith Family Funeral Home for a memorial service Saturday, April 22nd at 1pm.
Burial service will be held Saturday, April 29th at the Holly Hill Memorial Park in Fairburn, Georgia.
